About Landscapes for Living
Promoting biodiversity in the landscape

The objectives for Stage 1 of the project were to:
Set out a 50 Year vision for biodiversity for the West Midlands focussing on the development of a landscape scale approach to restoring and enhancing biodiversity;
Produce an agreed biodiversity map for the West Midlands to form the basis of a submission to the Phase 3 revision of the Regional Spatial strategy due to commence in Spring 2007;
Identify and map the linkages and overlaps with the key area-based policy initiatives of other sectors which are likely to have an impact on the delivery of landscape scale biodiversity in the region;
Provide advice for sub-regional local opportunity mapping and large-scale delivery projects;
Engage in consultation with a range of audiences to ensure that the vision and map are widely supported and bought into.

Consultation formed a major element of the project, and was used to provide ownership and contributution to the project and to help start the processes required for Stage 2.
